The Ayush Export Promotion Council (AYUSHEXCIL) and the Spices Board of India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the international promotion of Ayush products and medicinal spices, marking a significant step towards expanding India’s traditional wellness exports in global markets.
The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in areas such as export promotion, capacity building, quality enhancement, research collaboration and international market development for medicinal plants, herbal products and value-added spices used in Ayush systems of medicine. The partnership is expected to create stronger linkages between India’s spice sector and the growing global demand for natural healthcare and wellness products.
Under the MoU, both organisations will work jointly on trade fairs, buyer-seller meets, knowledge exchange programmes and promotional campaigns to increase awareness of India’s traditional medicinal heritage. The collaboration will also focus on ensuring compliance with international quality standards and improving traceability and certification mechanisms for medicinal spices and herbal ingredients.
Officials noted that India possesses immense potential in the Ayush and medicinal spice sectors due to its rich biodiversity and long-standing tradition of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy. The initiative is expected to support exporters, farmers, cultivators and MSMEs engaged in herbal and spice-based industries while strengthening India’s position as a global hub for holistic wellness products.
