The Indian Navy has commissioned INS Nipun, the second indigenously designed and constructed Diving Support Vessel (DSV) of the Nistar class, at a time when the force is strengthening its specialised underwater operations. Built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam, the vessel will support deep-sea diving, underwater intervention and submarine rescue missions.
INS Nipun is designed to undertake complex diving operations and provide specialised support during maritime emergencies. Its induction marks another step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat and highlights India’s growing expertise in designing and building specialised naval platforms domestically.
The vessel will augment the Indian Navy’s existing resources for underwater operations and enhance its preparedness for demanding maritime missions.
