Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, PVSM, AVSM, NM, on Monday assumed charge as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Western Naval Command, one of the Indian Navy’s most operationally significant commands responsible for safeguarding the nation’s western maritime front.
Commissioned into the Indian Navy on January 1, 1988, Vice Admiral Vatsayan is a specialist in Gunnery and Missile Systems and has held a wide range of command, operational and staff appointments during his distinguished naval career spanning nearly four decades.
Prior to assuming command of the Western Naval Command, he served as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff. His earlier appointments include commanding frontline warships and key operational formations, besides serving in important policy and strategic positions at Naval Headquarters.
As the new FOC-in-C, Vice Admiral Vatsayan will oversee maritime operations across the Arabian Sea and the western seaboard, while leading efforts to enhance operational readiness, maritime security and force modernization. The Western Naval Command, headquartered in Mumbai, is the Indian Navy’s premier operational command and plays a pivotal role in safeguarding India’s maritime interests.
Before taking over charge, the Flag Officer paid tribute to fallen naval personnel at the Gaurav Stambh memorial and reviewed ceremonial arrangements marking the change of command.
