Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has reported strong operational performance in August 2026, with significant growth in both production and sales, while also strengthening its financial position. SAIL recorded an 8% year-on-year increase in crude steel production, reaching 1.68 million tonnes (MT) in August 2026, compared with 1.55 MT during the same month last year.
The company’s sales performance was even stronger, with total sales rising 13% year-on-year to 1.87 MT, up from 1.65 MT in August 2025. SAIL also achieved record August production levels in hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel, reflecting improved operational efficiency and capacity utilisation.
On the financial front, the steel major has reduced its borrowings by ₹870 crore compared with the level recorded as of March 31, 2026. The improvement comes amid continued efforts to strengthen the company’s financial position and operational performance.
The strong August numbers underline SAIL’s positive sales momentum and its ability to meet rising demand in India’s steel market. The performance also comes as domestic steel demand remains supported by infrastructure, construction and manufacturing activity.
With production, sales and financial indicators showing positive movement, SAIL is strengthening its position as a key player in India’s steel sector.
