Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 8 inaugurated, dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth more than ₹35,000 crore in Vadodara, Gujarat.
A major highlight of the programme was the commissioning of key sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC). The three sections span 326 route kilometres and represent an investment of more than ₹20,700 crore, providing faster freight connectivity between industrial centres and Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
The projects also include new railway and highway links, along with initiatives in urban development, housing and renewable energy. The infrastructure push is aimed at improving connectivity, strengthening logistics networks and supporting economic activity across Gujarat and neighbouring regions.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi highlighted the completion of the 2,800-km Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors, describing it as a major milestone for India’s transportation and commercial networks. He also emphasised the role of modern infrastructure in accelerating India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor is expected to improve cargo movement, enable greater use of double-stack container trains and help reduce logistics time and costs, strengthening India’s freight transportation ecosystem. The ₹35,000-crore development push marks another major step towards building a faster, better-connected and more infrastructure-driven India.
