Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, inaugurated a 20 kW Akashvani FM transmitter at Ramgarh in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, marking a significant step towards strengthening communication infrastructure in India’s border regions. The transmitter was inaugurated virtually as part of the Government’s broader initiative to enhance broadcasting services in frontier areas.
The newly commissioned FM transmitter is expected to improve radio coverage across Ramgarh and surrounding areas, ensuring that residents in remote border villages receive reliable access to news, information, educational content and entertainment. The initiative is also aimed at reinforcing the reach of public broadcasting services in strategically important regions.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized the importance of robust communication networks in border districts and highlighted the Government’s efforts to establish and upgrade Akashvani and Doordarshan infrastructure from Kashmir to Kutch. The enhanced broadcasting network is intended to provide accurate and timely information to local communities while strengthening India’s media presence in border areas.
The 20 kW FM transmitter will significantly improve signal strength and reception quality, enabling Akashvani programmes to reach a larger population. The development is expected to benefit residents, security personnel and local communities by ensuring uninterrupted access to public service broadcasting and government information.
The inauguration forms part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to modernize broadcasting infrastructure and bridge communication gaps in remote and strategically important locations, contributing to greater information outreach and national integration.
