Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, has assumed charge as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of the Indian Navy, succeeding Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who superannuated after more than four decades of distinguished service.

A Communication and Electronic Warfare specialist, Admiral Swaminathan was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 1 July 1987 and has held several key operational, training and staff appointments during his nearly four-decade-long naval career. Before taking over as Navy Chief, he served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command and earlier held appointments including Vice Chief of the Naval Staff.

In his first remarks after assuming command, Admiral Swaminathan underscored the Navy’s commitment to operational readiness, jointness among the armed forces, self-reliance (Atmanirbharta) and indigenisation. He also emphasized safeguarding India’s maritime and economic interests in an increasingly complex regional security environment.
