Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the Shivlakha Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal (GCT) and dedicated three Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals to the nation, marking another step towards strengthening India’s freight transportation and logistics infrastructure. The Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Linch Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal, further expanding the network of dedicated cargo-handling facilities aimed at improving the efficiency of freight movement.
Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals are being developed to facilitate seamless movement of goods between rail and other modes of transport. Such terminals are expected to enhance logistics efficiency, reduce transportation time and costs, and provide industries with improved access to rail-based freight services.
The initiatives form part of Indian Railways’ broader efforts to expand freight-handling capacity and promote multimodal transportation, supporting the development of an integrated logistics network across the country. The commissioning and planned development of these terminals are expected to strengthen freight connectivity while contributing to more efficient supply chains and greater utilisation of railways for cargo transportation.
