The Indian Navy has commissioned INS Malvan, the second Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), marking a significant addition to the country’s growing maritime defence capabilities. The induction of the advanced warship further strengthens the Navy’s ability to undertake specialised underwater surveillance and anti-submarine warfare operations in coastal and shallow-water environments.
The Mahe-class vessels have been designed to perform a range of missions, with a particular focus on detecting, tracking and countering underwater threats in littoral waters. Their induction is expected to enhance the Indian Navy’s operational readiness and strengthen maritime security along India’s extensive coastline.
The commissioning of INS Malvan also highlights the country’s continued emphasis on strengthening indigenous shipbuilding and developing advanced naval platforms. The vessel represents another step towards building a modern, technologically advanced and self-reliant Indian Navy capable of effectively responding to emerging maritime security challenges.
