In a major boost to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹2,906 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the supply of Low-Level Transportable Radar (Ashwini) for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Developed indigenously by DRDO, the Ashwini radar is an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar designed to enhance low-altitude aerial surveillance capabilities. The system is transportable, providing greater flexibility and operational readiness to the IAF.

This contract strengthens India’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing, reducing dependence on foreign technologies and reinforcing the country’s air defence network.
