The National Overseas Scholarship Scheme of the Government of India has helped a 26-year-old student from a rural farming family overcome financial challenges and achieve his dream of pursuing higher education at an international university.  According to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the student, Aarav Mane (name changed), belonging to the Scheduled Caste community, successfully completed his Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence from Monash University, Australia, with financial assistance under the National Overseas Scholarship Scheme.

Coming from a financially disadvantaged farming family, pursuing higher education abroad was initially a distant dream for Aarav. Despite limited financial resources and inadequate exposure to international educational opportunities, he remained determined to build a career in Artificial Intelligence and contribute to technological innovation.

The financial burden of overseas education, including university tuition fees, accommodation, living expenses and educational resources, posed significant challenges for his family. The increasing tuition fees during the later semesters further added to these difficulties.

The National Overseas Scholarship proved instrumental in supporting his academic journey. Under the scheme, he received financial assistance towards tuition fees, living expenses and other related educational costs for the period 2024–2026, enabling him to pursue his postgraduate studies without placing an unsustainable financial burden on his family.

Through this opportunity, Aarav gained international academic exposure and developed advanced technical skills in Artificial Intelligence.

Having successfully completed his Master’s degree, he is now working towards establishing his professional career in the technology sector. He aspires to work as an AI Engineer in India, develop impactful AI-driven solutions and contribute to the country’s growing capabilities in Artificial Intelligence and technological innovation.

His journey highlights the role of the National Overseas Scholarship in expanding access to international higher education and creating opportunities for talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The Ministry said the scheme continues to play an important role in helping eligible students overcome financial and geographical barriers while pursuing their academic and professional aspirations.
