The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a nationwide initiative to develop world-class public toilet facilities at toll plazas across the National Highway network. The initiative aims to provide clean, hygienic, accessible, and user-friendly sanitation facilities for highway commuters.

Under the programme, NHAI will upgrade existing toilet infrastructure and construct modern facilities equipped with essential amenities, including separate sections for men and women, facilities for persons with disabilities, adequate water supply, proper lighting, and regular maintenance. The initiative is expected to enhance commuter convenience, improve hygiene standards, and promote a better travel experience on India’s highways.

The move is part of NHAI’s broader efforts to strengthen highway infrastructure and improve public amenities in line with global standards.
