The National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC) Scheme is creating opportunities for students from Scheduled Caste communities to pursue higher education, undertake advanced research and build successful professional careers by providing financial assistance.
One such inspiring example is that of Pavithran S (name changed), a 32-year-old scholar from Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu, whose academic and professional journey has benefited from support under the NFSC Scheme.
Aspiring to complete his Ph.D. and establish a strong academic and professional career, Pavithran initially faced administrative challenges as he was the first student at his institution to receive the fellowship under the scheme. The process involved certain institutional formalities, including the creation of Maker and Checker IDs for processing fellowship-related requirements.
A significant turning point came in March 2023, when he started receiving financial assistance under the NFSC Scheme. The support included fellowship assistance, House Rent Allowance (HRA) and contingency grants. So far, he has received a total financial assistance of ₹5 lakh under the scheme.
The timely financial support helped him manage the expenses associated with higher education and doctoral research. It reduced his financial burden, enabled him to continue his Ph.D. and contributed towards improving the financial stability of his family.
Beyond academic assistance, the fellowship also positively influenced his professional journey. Pavithran is currently employed full-time and acknowledges the important role played by the NFSC Scheme in supporting his career development.
According to him, the fellowship provided valuable financial stability and encouragement to pursue his academic goals while progressing professionally. Pavithran’s journey highlights how targeted financial assistance can help scholars overcome economic barriers, continue higher education and achieve professional aspirations.
