Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on November 3, 2026, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for Pune Metro projects worth approximately ₹21,800 crore through video conferencing, marking a major step towards strengthening urban transportation and connectivity in Maharashtra.
The Prime Minister inaugurated Pune Metro Line 3, popularly known as the Pink Line, constructed at a cost of over ₹8,300 crore. The approximately 23-kilometre corridor connects Maan with the District Court Metro station, providing direct Metro connectivity between the Hinjewadi IT hub and Shivajinagar.
The new corridor is expected to significantly improve daily commuting for IT professionals, students, employees and other residents by offering a faster and more convenient public transport option. A distinctive feature of Pune Metro Line 3 is that it will be operated entirely by women train operators. The corridor is also designed with a focus on sustainability, with approximately 30 per cent of its electricity requirements expected to be met through solar power.
During the programme, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for Pune Metro Phase-II, comprising four new corridors — Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A — with an estimated investment of around ₹13,500 crore.
The Pune Metro expansion is expected to strengthen the city’s public transport system, reduce dependence on private vehicles, improve connectivity to employment centres and support sustainable urban development.
The projects represent an important investment in Pune’s future, with the objective of making urban mobility more accessible, efficient and environmentally sustainable.
