The foundation stone for a four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) between Guntur and Nambur railway stations in Andhra Pradesh has been laid as part of efforts to improve urban mobility, railway safety and road-rail connectivity in the region. The project has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹108 crore, with the entire cost to be borne by the Ministry of Railways.
The 668-metre-long ROB will replace Level Crossing (LC) Gate No. 3 on the Guntur-Krishna Canal section of the Guntur-Nambur railway line. Located near Guntur’s Inner Ring Road, the bridge will provide a direct connection between Bus Stand Road and Gorantla Village, helping improve the movement of road traffic in the area.
The foundation stone was laid by Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti V. Somanna, along with Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar. Construction is scheduled to commence shortly, with around 2.9 acres of land required for the project.
The new bridge is expected to eliminate delays caused by the existing level crossing and enable smoother movement of vehicles. According to the Ministry of Railways, the project will help reduce commuter travel time and fuel consumption while improving railway operations and overall road safety.
Speaking at the event, V. Somanna highlighted the priority being given to passenger safety and operational efficiency, noting that the replacement of level crossings with ROBs and Road Under Bridges is an important part of railway infrastructure modernisation. Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar underlined the importance of coordination between Central and State authorities in accelerating transport infrastructure projects in Andhra Pradesh.
The Guntur-Nambur project is part of wider railway infrastructure development in Andhra Pradesh. The Ministry has also stated that 74 railway stations in the state are being modernised with an investment of around ₹3,500 crore, alongside ongoing ROB and RUB works.
