Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) has formally handed over ICGS Ajit (Yard 1277), an indigenously designed Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), to the Indian Coast Guard, marking another milestone in India’s defence shipbuilding and maritime security capabilities.
The 51.43-metre-long vessel, built with more than 65% indigenous content, has been developed to undertake critical maritime security missions, including coastal patrolling, Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance, fisheries protection, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy and search-and-rescue operations.
ICGS Ajit features twin marine diesel engines coupled with Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP), enhancing propulsion efficiency and operational flexibility. The vessel has a displacement of around 330 tonnes and can support a crew of six officers and 35 sailors.
The handover reinforces Goa Shipyard Limited’s role in indigenous defence production and supports the Government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, while strengthening the Indian Coast Guard’s ability to safeguard India’s coastal and offshore interests.
