On April 7, 2025, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with CERT-In, CSIRT-Fin, and global cybersecurity firm SISA, unveiled the Digital Threat Report 2024. This inaugural report offers a comprehensive analysis of current and emerging cyber threats, tactics employed by adversaries, and defense strategies essential for safeguarding India’s Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector.

The BFSI sector has been increasingly targeted by cybercriminals, with a notable 54% surge in cyber threats originating from servers hosted in India during 2024. Over 7 million cyber incidents were recorded, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity measures within the industry.

The Digital Threat Report 2024 aims to address these challenges by providing financial institutions with a unified framework to identify and mitigate sector-wide security gaps and emerging cyber risks. The collaboration between government bodies and industry leaders reflects a concerted effort to bolster the resilience of India’s financial infrastructure against evolving cyber threats.
