The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has handed over the Kalughat Intermodal Terminal in Bihar to Summit Alliance Port East Gateway (India) Pvt. Ltd. under a PPP model, marking another milestone under the Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) on National Waterway-1. IWAI will receive 38.30% of gross revenue from the terminal’s operations.
Meanwhile, cargo operations have started at the Haldia Multi-Modal Terminal in West Bengal, operated by IRC Natural Resources Pvt. Ltd. The first consignment, Granulated Blast Furnace Slag from Tata Steel, was shipped to Pandu (Assam).
Developed with World Bank assistance, both projects aim to boost inland water transport, reduce logistics costs, and strengthen multimodal connectivity across eastern India.
