In a significant boost to pilgrimage tourism and regional connectivity, Union Minister Shri V. Somanna  flagged off the inaugural run of the new Tirupati–Sainagar Shirdi Express from Tirupati railway station. The new train service establishes a direct and long-awaited rail link between two of India’s most revered spiritual destinations: Tirupati, the abode of Lord Venkateswara, and Shirdi, the home of Shri Saibaba.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by senior railway officials and local dignitaries. Speaking at the event, Union Minister emphasized the government’s focus on enhancing connectivity to facilitate pilgrimage and socio-economic development.

“This train is not just a service; it is a bridge of faith connecting the devotees of Lord Venkateswara and Shri Saibaba,” said Somanna, who holds the portfolio of Minister of State for Railways, Textiles, and Jal Shakti. “It will provide a comfortable, affordable, and safe journey for millions of pilgrims and boost tourism in the regions it passes through.”

Key Details of the Service

  • Expected Impact: The direct service eliminates the need for multiple transfers or lengthy road travel, significantly easing the journey for pilgrims aiming to visit both temples. It is also expected to benefit general passengers and boost local economies along the route.
