In a significant move to bolster homegrown innovation in electric mobility, the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST) has announced financial support for the development of India’s first indigenous 240-Volt electric motorcycle platform. This landmark initiative marks a major technological leap for the Indian automotive sector, aiming to create a foundation for high-performance, efficient, and scalable electric two-wheelers.
The high-voltage platform represents a substantial advancement over the current mainstream electric scooters and motorcycles in India, which typically operate on lower-voltage systems (48V, 72V, or 96V). This development is poised to redefine the market by enabling a new class of electric motorcycles that compete directly with mid-range and high-performance internal combustion engine (ICE) bikes.
