Shri Nitin Gupta, former Chairperson of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), has officially assumed charge as the Chairperson of the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA).
A 1986-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, Shri Gupta was appointed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), with his appointment approved on July 17, 2025. He will serve a term of three years or until attaining the age of 65, whichever is earlier.
Along with Shri Gupta, three full-time members also took charge at NFRA:
- Smt. Smita Jhingran
- Dr. P. Daniel
- Shri Sushil Kumar Jaiswal
Shri Gupta brings with him over three decades of experience in direct tax administration and policy, having earlier led major initiatives in faceless assessments, AI-driven tax compliance, and enforcement during his tenure at CBDT (June 2022 – June 2024).
NFRA, established under the Companies Act, 2013 and operational since October 2018, is India’s independent regulator for accounting and auditing standards, aimed at improving financial reporting quality and corporate governance.
Shri Gupta succeeds Smt. Ravneet Kaur, who had been holding additional charge as NFRA Chairperson since April 1, 2025.
