Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna CPSE, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), a Navratna CPSE, to collaborate in the area of diesel locomotive leasing and maintenance.

The MoU aims to strengthen SAIL’s internal rail logistics across its steel plants and mining units by ensuring the availability of reliable diesel locomotives along with professional maintenance support. Under the agreement, RITES will provide diesel locomotives on lease and offer higher-level maintenance services for SAIL’s existing diesel locomotive fleet.

This collaboration is expected to enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and cost optimisation in the movement of raw materials, semi-finished, and finished products within SAIL’s integrated operations. The MoU was signed in the presence of senior officials of both organisations. The partnership leverages RITES’ expertise in railway engineering and asset management while enabling SAIL to focus on its core steelmaking activities.

The initiative reflects the commitment of both CPSEs to improving industrial logistics through strategic collaboration and efficient resource utilisation.
