President Droupadi Murmu has given her assent to the Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, 2025 (VB-G RAM G), officially transforming it into law, the Rural Development Ministry said on Sunday. The legislation replaces the two-decade-old Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005, marking a major overhaul of India’s rural employment and livelihood security framework.

Under the new VB-G RAM G Act, 2025, rural households will be guaranteed a statutory minimum of 125 days of wage employment per financial year, up from 100 days under MGNREGA. The law aligns the rural jobs programme with the government’s long-term vision of “Viksit Bharat @2047” and aims to strengthen livelihood security, promote inclusive growth and enhance transparency and accountability in implementation.
