In a significant push for indigenous manufacturing and clean energy, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, Shri HD Kumaraswamy, visited the BHEL facility in Haridwar today. During the visit, he dedicated multiple high-value projects to the nation, reinforcing the public sector giant’s role in India’s strategic and energy security.

The centerpiece of the event was the inauguration of a 5 MW ground-mounted solar power plant. Comprising over 11,000 solar modules, the facility is expected to generate approximately 900,000 kWh of electricity annually. The Minister highlighted that this initiative aligns with India’s Net Zero target for 2070, significantly reducing the facility’s carbon footprint and operational costs.

In a major milestone for the defence sector, Shri Kumaraswamy flagged off the Upgraded Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM) destined for the Indian Navy. This advanced naval weapon system, capable of firing 120 rounds per minute up to a range of 35 km, underscores the success of the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) vision in sophisticated arms manufacturing.

The visit also marked the inauguration of a new 30-ton Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) at BHEL’s Central Foundry and Forge Plant. The furnace is expected to enhance India’s metallurgical capabilities, ensuring self-reliance in producing critical components for the power and heavy industrial sectors. Additionally, the Minister flagged off a large Turbo Generator manufactured at the Haridwar plant, destined for a major power project, reaffirming BHEL’s enduring contribution to the national power grid.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister lauded BHEL as a “repository of national capability,” stating that such initiatives are crucial for converting the nation’s aspirations for energy security and strategic autonomy into reality.
