The National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID) and the Jai Vakeel Foundation (JVF) have signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to roll out the NIEPID‑DISHA Curriculum—a structured and uniform educational framework for children with intellectual disabilities (CwID)—across India.
The NIEPID‑DISHA model, including the multisensory curriculum, assessment checklist, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), digital portal, and teacher training materials, will be made available nationwide in all schools, centres, and organisations serving children with intellectual disabilities.
Announced in the presence of Shri Rajesh Aggarwal (Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities), the initiative will be implemented immediately in CDEIC centres, DDRS programmes, and available to adopting schools as a free curriculum package with training.
The government will fund the printing of workbooks and learning materials under the DALM scheme (previously limited to Braille), extending to intellectual disabilities in multiple languages. Teacher training modules will receive CRE accreditation, facilitating scaling efforts.
This collaboration aligns with UN SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), contributing to the vision of “Viksit Bharat” through empowering children with disabilities.
