The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (EPwD) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sri Aurobindo Society under its flagship Rupantar Programme, marking a significant stride toward inclusive education under the newly launched Project Inclusion .

Under this MoU, the Sri Aurobindo Society will collaborate with EPwD to:

Build capacity among educators, rehabilitation professionals, counsellors, and general teachers to support children with disabilities in mainstream classrooms.

Deploy training and awareness initiatives through a bespoke mobile app and online platform. Foster innovations in inclusive teaching methods, and conduct research and development to enhance access and learning outcomes.

These efforts align with Sections 16, 17, and 47 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016, which guarantee the right to inclusive education.   A key emphasis of the partnership is on expanding into geographically remote and underserved regions, including the Leh Inclusion Initiative

. The MoU also reinforces the government’s commitment under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to ensure equitable quality education for all children..

Project Inclusion, administered by the Sri Aurobindo Society, is already active in 36 states and union territories. It has successfully oriented over 360,000 teachers in identifying and providing interventions for Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDD) and Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) through a structured online training program—including tools for screening and classroom support .

This MoU marks a pivotal step in solidifying India’s inclusive education framework, leveraging technology and teacher training to integrate children with disabilities into mainstream schooling, with a strong focus on reaching underserved regions.  Let me know if you’d like further details on Rupantar’s curriculum, mobile app features, or statelevel implementation plans.
