In a significant push toward defence indigenisation under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Thursday signed a major contract worth ₹2,095.70 crore with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the procurement of INVAR Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs).
The missiles, designed to be fired from the T-90 main battle tanks, will substantially enhance the Indian Army’s operational capability by improving precision strike abilities against armored targets. The contract underscores India’s commitment to strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing and reducing dependency on foreign equipment.
The INVAR missiles are capable of engaging targets at extended ranges with high accuracy, offering a major boost to the lethality and battlefield effectiveness of the T-90 fleet. The MoD stated that the partnership with BDL reinforces the government’s strategic objective of achieving self-reliance in defence production, while also supporting domestic industry and creating employment opportunities.
The delivery timelines and induction schedule are expected to align with the Army’s modernization plan for its armored regiments.
