Dhiraj Seth on Wednesday assumed charge as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS), taking over one of the most senior positions in the Indian Army. He succeeds Pushpendra Pal Singh, who has moved to a new command role following a broader reshuffle in the Army’s top leadership.
Lt Gen Seth took charge at a formal ceremony held at South Block in New Delhi, where he reviewed a guard of honour after assuming office. Prior to this appointment, he served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command and played a key role during recent operations and military exercises.
An Armoured Corps officer commissioned in 1986, Lt Gen Seth brings extensive experience across command and staff roles, including leadership of strike corps, armoured formations and counter-insurgency forces. The Vice Chief of the Army Staff is the second-highest-ranking officer in the Indian Army, responsible for assisting the Chief of Army Staff in operational and administrative matters.
The appointment comes as part of a significant reshuffle in the Army’s top brass, aimed at maintaining operational readiness amid evolving security challenges.
