The plate cutting ceremony of the fourth Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) was held today at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai.
The event marks a significant milestone in the construction of the series of NGOPVs being built by MDL for the ICG under the “Make in India” initiative. The vessels are designed to enhance the Coast Guard’s capability for surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue, and maritime law enforcement in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Senior officials from the Indian Coast Guard and MDL attended the ceremony, reaffirming the commitment towards bolstering India’s maritime security and indigenisation in shipbuilding.
The NGOPVs, once commissioned, will play a vital role in augmenting the operational efficiency of the ICG in safeguarding national maritime interests.
