Shri Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Power, Housing & Urban Affairs,  inaugurated the commercial operation of the first unit of the country’s largest hydropower project, marking an important milestone in India’s journey towards clean and sustainable energy.

The commissioning of the first unit represents a significant step forward in strengthening the nation’s renewable energy capacity and enhancing grid stability. The hydropower project, once fully operational, will make a substantial contribution to meeting the country’s growing power demand while supporting India’s climate commitments.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Manohar Lal emphasised the critical role of hydropower in ensuring energy security and facilitating the transition to a low-carbon economy. He stated that the Government of India is committed to accelerating the development of renewable energy infrastructure, with a special focus on environmentally sustainable and economically viable projects.

The project is expected to promote regional development, generate employment opportunities, and contribute to socio-economic growth in the surrounding areas. Upon completion, it will significantly augment the availability of clean electricity and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

The inauguration of the first unit reflects the government’s continued efforts to expand renewable energy generation and build a resilient, sustainable power sector for the future.
