This substantial rise underscores the impact of focused government initiatives, improved aquaculture practices, enhanced infrastructure, and the adoption of modern technologies across the fisheries sector. The growth has strengthened livelihoods of fishers and fish farmers, boosted exports, and contributed to nutritional security in the country.

The sustained expansion of fish production highlights India’s emergence as a major global player in fisheries and aquaculture, while reinforcing the sector’s role in economic growth and rural development.

Marking a historic milestone in the growth of its Blue Economy, India’s fisheries sector has achieved a transformational leap, with annual fish production more than doubling over the past eleven years.
