State-owned telecom operator BSNL has initiated a soft launch of its quantum-secured 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service, marking India’s first deployment of quantum encryption in commercial broadband networks.

The limited launch, currently available to select enterprise customers in pilot cities, utilizes quantum key distribution (QKD) technology to provide theoretically unhackable data transmission. BSNL plans a full commercial rollout by Q1 2025 following successful field trials.

Key Features:

• Quantum-encrypted last-mile connectivity

• 5G speeds up to 1Gbps for home/office use

• Initial deployment in Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad

This positions India at the forefront of secure next-gen connectivity.” The service will compete with Jio and Airtel’s conventional 5G FWA offerings, albeit with a premium security proposition.
