In a major breakthrough in cancer treatment, a team of Indian scientists has developed a novel nanotechnology-based method to kill cancer cells using heat. The technique uses specially designed gold nano-cups—microscopic hollow particles—that can be injected into the body and activated by laser light to precisely burn tumor cells.
This approach, known as photothermal therapy, provides a highly targeted way to treat cancer, avoiding the harsh side effects of chemotherapy or radiation.
“Our method simplifies the synthesis of these nano-cups, making the treatment more accessible and cost-effective,” said Dr. Richa Sinha, lead researcher from the National Institute of Biomedical Nanotechnology.
