The Indian Navy today launched DSC A22 (Yard 327), the third vessel in the series of five Diving Support Craft (DSC) being built under the DSC Project. The launch ceremony took place at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam, marking another milestone in India’s efforts to strengthen its underwater operations capability.
The Diving Support Crafts are designed to provide essential support to the Navy’s submarine and diving operations, including underwater inspection, maintenance, and salvage tasks. Each vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art diving systems, advanced communication suites, and specialized equipment to ensure safe and effective deployment of naval divers in a variety of missions.
Officials highlighted that the project underscores India’s push for Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliance) in defence shipbuilding, with design and construction being carried out indigenously.
DSC A22 follows the earlier launches of DSC A20 and DSC A21, and the remaining two vessels in the series are scheduled to be delivered in phases by 2026. Once commissioned, the fleet of Diving Support Crafts will significantly enhance the Indian Navy’s ability to undertake complex underwater operations across its areas of responsibility.
