The Indian Navy has assumed command of Combined Task Force 154 for the first time, marking a significant milestone in India’s growing role in regional maritime security.

Combined Task Force 154 operates under the umbrella of the Combined Maritime Forces, a multinational naval partnership headquartered in Bahrain. The task force focuses on maritime security operations, including counter-terrorism, counter-smuggling, and ensuring safe passage for commercial shipping in strategically important waters.

Officials described the development as a reflection of India’s expanding operational reach and its commitment to collaborative security in the Indian Ocean Region and beyond. The leadership role is expected to enhance interoperability with partner navies and strengthen coordinated responses to emerging maritime threats.

The assumption of command underscores India’s vision of promoting a free, open, and rules-based maritime order while contributing actively to global peace and stability.
