In a proud moment for Indian animation, “Desi Oon”, a 7minute stopmotion short by Studio Eeksaurus, secured the prestigious Jury Award for Best Commissioned Film at the Annecy International Animation Festival 2025, the worlds foremost animation showcase.

Directed by acclaimed animator Suresh Eriyat and brought to life using actual Deccani wool, the film weaves a poignant narrative around the plight of India’s indigenous wool industry, shepherded by the beloved Deccani sheep. Studio Eeksaurus spent over a year in the field, closely collaborating with the Centre for Pastoralism, shepherds, and weavers to authentically capture this vanishing heritage.

With narration by Swanand Kirkire, music by Rajat Dholakia, and sound design by Oscarwinner ResulPookutty, Desi Oon transcends animationit becomes an emotional, multisensory tribute to tradition.  Suresh Eriyat shared that crafting the film from mid2023 to its completion in early 2025 was a labor of love, driven by a desire to highlight pastoral resilience.

Meanwhile, the film has also been honored domestically—winning top prize at WAVES 2025 in Mumbai—and earned a shortlist spot at Cannes Lions 2025 in the Film Craft Lions category.
