India has achieved another milestone in its defense capabilities with the successful trial of the Akash Prime surface-to-air missile system at high altitude. Conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the test confirmed the missile’s effectiveness in extreme weather and challenging terrain, such as those found in the Himalayan region.

Akash Prime is an upgraded version of the Akash missile system, designed to intercept and destroy aerial threats like fighter jets, drones, and cruise missiles. The new version features improved accuracy, better low-temperature performance, and a more robust seeker for better target tracking in complex environments.

During the trial, the missile accurately hit an unmanned aerial target, validating its enhanced capabilities and reliability in high-altitude operational conditions. Defense officials praised the achievement as a major step forward in India’s efforts to secure its northern borders, especially in light of strategic challenges in mountainous regions.

This successful test strengthens India’s self-reliance in defense technology under the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative and marks a significant boost to the country’s air defense preparedness.
