Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh inaugurated a state-of-the-art Missile Integration Facility at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in Bengaluru today, marking a significant step towards strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing and enhancing India’s air defence capabilities.
On the occasion, the Raksha Mantri flagged off the 3rd and 4th Regiments of the Akash Weapon System for induction into the Indian Army. The induction of these regiments is expected to substantially augment the country’s operational preparedness and air defence coverage, particularly in challenging terrains.
Shri Rajnath Singh also unveiled the indigenously developed Mountain Fire Control Radar, designed to enhance surveillance, target acquisition and tracking capabilities in high-altitude areas. The radar system is equipped with advanced features to ensure reliable performance under extreme weather and terrain conditions.
Addressing the gathering, the Raksha Mantri commended BEL and associated industry partners for their contribution to the Government’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ in defence. He emphasised that the commissioning of the new facility and induction of advanced systems reflect the growing technological capabilities of the domestic defence industry.
The Missile Integration Facility will serve as a key hub for the integration, testing and quality assurance of missile systems, thereby improving production efficiency and ensuring timely delivery to the Armed Forces.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, Indian Army and BEL were present on the occasion.
