India today launched the Responsible Nations Index (RNI), a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting ethical governance, global responsibility and sustainable development among nations. The index seeks to provide a comprehensive framework to assess countries on their commitment to responsible conduct in the international arena.

The Responsible Nations Index evaluates nations across key parameters including respect for international law, climate and environmental responsibility, humanitarian engagement, transparency in governance, and contribution to global public goods. The initiative aims to encourage nations to adopt a broader and more values-driven approach to global leadership beyond conventional economic metrics.

Speaking on the occasion, dignitaries noted that the index reflects India’s civilisational ethos of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”—the world is one family—and underscores the country’s commitment to a rules-based, inclusive and equitable global order.

The index is envisaged as a useful tool for policymakers, governments, researchers and international institutions, facilitating informed dialogue and cooperation on pressing global challenges such as climate change, sustainable development, peace and humanitarian action.

The launch of the Responsible Nations Index reinforces India’s growing role in shaping global governance narratives and advocating responsible, transparent and cooperative international behaviour.
