India and Israel have signed a Joint Ministerial Declaration of Intent to strengthen bilateral collaboration in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, aiming to enhance productivity, sustainability and technological innovation.

The declaration was signed during a high-level meeting between ministers of the two countries, reflecting their shared commitment to deepen cooperation in areas such as aquaculture technologies, fish health management, capacity building and knowledge exchange. The partnership is expected to support India’s efforts to modernise its fisheries sector while drawing on Israel’s expertise in advanced aquaculture practices.

Officials said the collaboration would focus on improving fish breeding techniques, efficient water use, disease control and sustainable production systems. It also envisages joint research initiatives, pilot projects and training programmes to benefit fish farmers, entrepreneurs and technical experts.

Fisheries and aquaculture play a crucial role in India’s food security, rural livelihoods and exports, particularly in coastal and inland states. Enhanced cooperation with Israel is expected to contribute to higher yields, better resource management and climate-resilient practices.

The declaration builds on the strong India–Israel partnership across agriculture, water management and innovation. Both sides expressed confidence that closer collaboration in fisheries and aquaculture would promote sustainable growth, support livelihoods and strengthen food systems in the face of evolving environmental and economic challenges.
