The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the construction of the Mokama–Munger section of the Buxar–Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor in Bihar. The 82.4 km stretch will be developed as a 4-lane greenfield access-controlled highway at a cost of ₹4,447.38 crore under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM). The project aims to provide seamless, high-speed connectivity between central and eastern Bihar, reducing travel time and easing congestion on existing road networks. Once completed, the corridor will serve as a key link for passenger and freight traffic, strengthening logistics and trade flows across the state.
Officials said the project will generate direct and indirect employment during construction and spur economic development in Mokama, Munger, and adjoining districts. The greenfield alignment is also expected to improve road safety, cut fuel consumption, and lower logistics costs. The use of Hybrid Annuity Mode ensures a balanced risk-sharing framework between the government and private developers, combining the advantages of EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) and BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) models.
The proposed project with 82.40 km will generate about 14.83 lakh man-days of direct employment and 18.46 lakh man-days of indirect employment. The project will also induce additional employment opportunities due to increase in economic activity in the vicinity of the proposed corridor.
