In a significant move towards empowering young women and promoting inclusive development, the Government of India today launched ‘NAVYA’, a new skilling initiative aimed at adolescent girls. The scheme, launched under the Viksit Bharat@2047 mission, is designed to equip girls aged 14 to 18 years with future-ready skills in high-growth, non-traditional sectors.
The initiative was unveiled jointly by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), with support from training partners under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0).
Pilot Launch Across 19 States
The pilot phase of NAVYA will be implemented in 27 districts across 19 states, with a target to train 3,800 adolescent girls. Upon successful completion of the pilot, the scheme is expected to scale up to 218 districts, with expanded outreach and resource allocation.
Focus on High-Demand Sectors
NAVYA will provide training in a range of sectors including:
- Information Technology and Digital Services
- Hospitality and Retail
- Green Jobs
- Digital Marketing
- Soft Skills and Entrepreneurship
These sectors were selected to help bridge the gender gap in industries where female participation remains below 25%.
Comprehensive Support Framework
Under the initiative, girls will be provided with:
- Free vocational training
- ₹1,000 monthly transport allowance (Direct Benefit Transfer)
- Support for boarding, lodging, and conveyance
- Health, nutrition, and POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) awareness
- Career guidance and placement support
The training will be delivered by recognized institutions such as Jan Shikshan Sansthans and other government-affiliated skilling centers.
