In a significant boost to India’s maritime security and indigenous shipbuilding capabilities, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) launched the ICGS ATAL, a state-of-the-art Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Monday. The launch ceremony took place at GSL’s shipyard in Vasco-da-Gama and marks the sixth vessel in the eight-ship Adamya-class FPV series being built by GSL under the Ministry of Defence.

The launch was ceremonially performed by Smt. Shilpa Agarwal, in the presence of Rozy Agarwal, IDAS, Principal Integrated Financial Advisor, Coast Guard Headquarters. Senior officials from the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, GSL, and other stakeholders attended the event.

Designed entirely in-house by GSL, the ATAL vessel showcases over 60% indigenous content, aligning with the Government of India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision. The ship is designed for multi-role operations, including coastal surveillance, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy, search and rescue (SAR), and exclusive economic zone (EEZ) monitoring.

“This launch reinforces our commitment to delivering world-class platforms to safeguard India’s maritime interests,” said Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman and Managing Director of GSL. “The ATAL is a testament to GSL’s capability in indigenously designing and building advanced patrol vessels under challenging timelines.”
