Financial constraints can often become a major barrier for students aspiring to pursue higher education and research. For Bhavesh A. Prabhakar of Ahmedabad, support under the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste (SC) Students (NFSC) Scheme helped turn an uncertain academic journey into a pathway towards doctoral studies and research.
Coming from a family with limited financial resources, Bhavesh faced significant economic challenges while pursuing his ambition of undertaking a Ph.D. Despite these difficulties, he remained determined to continue his education, strengthen his research skills and advance his academic aspirations.
His journey received an important boost through the NFSC Scheme, under which he began receiving fellowship assistance in December 2019. The financial support helped ease the burden of pursuing higher education and allowed him to devote greater attention to his academic work and research.
With reduced financial pressure, Bhavesh was able to concentrate more closely on his doctoral studies and continue developing his research capabilities. The fellowship also helped him sustain his long-term academic and professional aspirations.
Bhavesh is currently employed full-time, while continuing to work towards his Ph.D. His experience highlights how targeted financial assistance can help students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds overcome barriers to higher education and research.
Reflecting on the impact of the support, Bhavesh said that without the NFSC scholarship, pursuing his Ph.D. would not have been possible. His journey demonstrates how financial support can open doors to advanced education, research opportunities and professional growth, enabling aspiring scholars to pursue their goals despite economic challenges.
