Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects valued at over ₹1,500 crore at V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port).
The projects focus on strengthening green energy adoption, digital transformation, and core infrastructure development at the port.
Key initiatives include:
- Deployment of renewable energy systems, including solar and green hydrogen infrastructure
- Introduction of advanced digital platforms such as a Digital Twin system for real-time operations
- Upgradation of rail, road, and power connectivity
- Strengthening maritime security systems
The Minister stated that the initiatives align with the vision of Narendra Modi to modernise Indian ports under Maritime Vision 2047 and enhance India’s position as a global maritime hub.
The projects are expected to boost cargo handling capacity, improve logistics efficiency, generate employment, and promote sustainable maritime growth in the region.
