In a significant boost to India’s semiconductor ambitions, the Union Cabinet approved four new semiconductor manufacturing projects across Odisha, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh, with a combined investment of approximately ₹4,594 crore. This initiative reflects India’s push for Atmanirbhar Bharat, reinforcing high-tech manufacturing, chip design capabilities, and packaging infrastructure in the country.
With the approval of these projects, semiconductor ecosystem in country would get significant boost as these projects include country’s first commercial compound fab as well as highly advanced glass-based substrate semiconductor packaging unit.
The four new projects are projected to generate 2,034 skilled jobs, igniting local manufacturing ecosystems with further indirect employment. As an important economic and security milestone, these facilities are expected to advance India’s resilience in critical electronics and semiconductor supply chains.
