The Centre has approved a ₹132.51-crore project to strengthen road connectivity at Deendayal Port in Gujarat, in a move aimed at easing congestion and improving cargo movement at one of the country’s busiest ports. The project involves construction of a road over bridge (ROB) at a key railway level crossing near the port, a long-standing bottleneck that disrupts the smooth flow of freight traffic. The bridge will be executed in coordination with Western Railway.

Officials said the ROB will help eliminate delays caused by frequent gate closures, ensuring seamless evacuation of cargo and reducing turnaround time for trucks. The port handles a significant share of India’s bulk cargo, and improved last-mile connectivity is expected to enhance overall logistics efficiency.

The project has been sanctioned under the Centre’s flagship Sagarmala Programme, which focuses on modernising ports and strengthening hinterland connectivity to boost trade. Once completed, the upgrade is expected to decongest port access routes, cut transit delays and support faster movement of goods, reinforcing the strategic role of Deendayal Port in India’s maritime network.
