The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) successfully carried out a high-altitude rescue and road restoration operation at Chatergala Pass in Jammu & Kashmir, demonstrating its rapid response capability and commitment to maintaining critical connectivity in challenging terrain.

Chatergala Pass, located at an altitude of over 9,000 feet, is a vital mountain route connecting the districts of Doda and Kathua. Following heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions, the area experienced landslides and road blockages, leading to disruption of vehicular movement and stranding of civilians.

Responding swiftly, BRO personnel deployed heavy earth-moving machinery, including dozers, excavators, and loaders, to clear debris and restore road connectivity. Despite harsh weather, low visibility, and difficult terrain, the teams worked round the clock to reopen the pass in the shortest possible time.

During the operation, BRO teams also carried out a rescue mission, safely evacuating stranded travellers and providing immediate assistance, including food, water, and first aid. The timely intervention prevented further hardship and ensured the safety of civilians moving through the high-altitude route.

Senior BRO officials stated that maintaining all-weather connectivity in border and remote areas is a key mandate of the organisation, especially in regions prone to frequent landslides and extreme climatic conditions. The successful restoration of the Chatergala Pass road has re-established essential civilian movement, supply chains, and emergency access in the region.

The operation once again highlighted BRO’s crucial role in supporting national security, regional development, and disaster response in Jammu & Kashmir. Over the years, the organisation has played a vital role in constructing and maintaining strategic roads, bridges, and tunnels in some of the most inhospitable terrains of the country.

Local administration and residents expressed appreciation for BRO’s prompt action and dedication, noting that the restored connectivity has brought much-needed relief to commuters and nearby communities.

The Border Roads Organisation continues to remain on high alert across sensitive mountain passes, ensuring rapid response to weather-related disruptions and reaffirming its motto of “Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam” (Everything is achievable through hard work).
