The Government has appointed Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja as the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) with effect from August 31, 2026.
Air Marshal Thareja will assume charge as the head of the Armed Forces Medical Services, overseeing the medical support system for the Army, Navy and Air Force. He succeeds the outgoing DGAFMS and will be responsible for strengthening military healthcare, medical preparedness and operational support across the three Services.
The appointment reflects the government’s continued focus on enhancing the capabilities of the Armed Forces Medical Services to meet evolving defence and healthcare requirements.
