The Ayushman Bharat: Vay Vandana Card program has recently achieved a significant milestone, with over 10 lakh enrollments recorded within just three weeks of its launch on October 29, 20241. This health initiative, aimed at senior citizens aged 70 and above, is part of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), providing eligible individuals with free medical treatment worth up to ₹5 lakh annually.

The program reached 10 lakh enrollments within three weeks of its launch, with approximately 60% (about 4 lakh) of these being female applicants.  Treatments totaling over ₹9 crore have been authorized since the card’s introduction, positively impacting more than 4,800 senior citizens.

The program covers a wide range of medical procedures, including critical surgeries like coronary angioplasty and cataract operations.

The Ayushman Vay Vandana Card initiative not only enhances healthcare access for older citizens but also underscores the government’s commitment to providing essential services to the elder demographic, regardless of their income bracket. The quick enrollment rates and extensive medical benefits showcase the potential of this program to improve healthcare outcomes for senior citizens in India.
